Nikki's June Update

Well this blog post will be quite random, picking up on lots of things that have happened since my last posts, which unfortunately has been quite a while.

These last few weeks have been very busy. I finished my exams for the year at university, which generally means lots of celebrations and lots of people celebrating their birthdays. So you have the people who waited til after exams to celebrate, the ones who actually have their birthdays at that time and the ones who are celebrating early, because most people go home for summer.

I do have to say there was one party which stood out from all the rest. One of my friends, Aneesa, decided that as she was graduating this year and there were so many restaurants that she still hadn’t visited, for her 21st birthday her celebration was going to be a week long event in which we would eat out at a different restaurant each day – I’m going to go into this in more detail in my blog post Eating out - the week long birthday party in addition to that we had a couple of fancy dress parties, for one I made Pokemon costumes – looked at in my *pokemon fancy dress* blog post. (will be posted at some point - hopefully soon...)

But unfortunately that is most of my summer over now. I start working fulltime at the beginning of July, a six month placement as part of my degree, working in a biologics company. I haven’t quite decided whether or not I’m going to try and move closer to the office to reduce the commute I have. Maybe if I have a productive commute I could use the time to write some blog posts, which would be useful as I will be quite busy otherwise. I think it’s going to be quite a shock to my system though, it’s been a long time since I’ve had to get up at 6am everyday.

Since I’ve had to try and cram much of my summer into a few shorts weeks I went home to visit my parents and help them clear a lot of my old stuff out of their house. It’s quite surprising how much sentimental stuff you can accumulate over the years. I even spent many hours clearing out the contents of my old toy room. That brought back many happy memories of hours spent playing with lego and other toys. No expensive electronics or phones, just quite happily pass the time with a train set or building a lego house. =)

I went up to Birmingham as well to stay with a friend of mine for a few days. I got to go see some of the action at the Olympic Trials, which was really good. I was supposed to be seeing my friend run at them as well, but unfortunately he changed the event he was running in, so it was on a day I didn’t have a ticket for. Silly athletes always being so last minute with their plans... It does however make me feel ridiculously unfit whenever I see people competing at athletics. I wish I could run like that. Maybe I need to start my fitness ‘regime’ again and stick at it for more than a week or two.

Only a few more days til I start work :( but at the moment I'm helping Pippa pack all her stuff for going away sailing. I want to go away! But I can't... I'm still hoping maybe I will be able to go camping or on a weekend break over the summer. Fingers Crossed!
